Discovering Our Heritage for Adventure Week 2023: Visiting Denmark as a Metro Detroit Photographer . A Memorable Journey to Denmark
This years adventure week was all about heritage. Traveling to explore our ancestral roots holds a special place in my heart. We embarked on an unforgettable journey to English and Denmark, countries deeply rooted in rich history, captivating landscapes, and a vibrant culture.
- Reconnecting with Our Roots: As we step foot on Danish soil, a profound sense of belonging embraced me. We got to live like the locals and connect in ways I never imagined. Denmark, a country known for its warmth and hospitality, beckons us to reconnect with our ancestral heritage.
- Exploring the Historical Capital: Copenhagen: Our journey begins in the historic capital of Denmark, Copenhagen. This vibrant city seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern sophistication. The iconic Nyhavn harbor, with its colorful facades and bobbing boats, welcomes us to a place where history comes alive. We stroll through the cobbled streets, visiting landmarks like the majestic Rosenborg Castle, the symbol of Danish royalty, and the legendary Little Mermaid statue, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved fairy tale.
- Delving into Viking Heritage: No exploration of Danish heritage is complete without a deep dive into the captivating Viking history. We ventured to the viking museum, with artifacts show a testament to Denmark’s seafaring past. Stepping aboard reconstructed Viking ships, we imagine the fearless voyages undertaken by our ancestors, honoring their resilience and spirit of adventure.
- Immersed in Danish Traditions and Culture: To truly understand our heritage, we embrace Danish traditions and immerse ourselves in the local culture. We savor smørrebrød, open-faced sandwiches adorned with delectable toppings, and indulge in the famous Danish pastries, flaky delights that tantalize our taste buds. The Tivoli Gardens, a whimsical amusement park in the heart of Copenhagen, captivates us with its charming allure, transporting us to a bygone era of joy and wonder.
- Embracing Nature’s Beauty: We ventured into Skagen, the northern most point in Denmark, with the most charming town, lighthouse, beach and buried church.
A slower way of living, they surround themselves with wholesome food, conversation, and comfort, something I hope to bring back to our day to day in the States.
Denmark holds a big piece of my heart and I cannot wait to go back.
